This month we will report the results of the Future Topics Survey taken during the June 2012 CTXWFS Meeting.
One of the recurring themes from our membership discussion sessions has been a desire to have more variety in our monthly programs. The guest speaker format used for our monthly meetings has provided many useful insights over the years, but the current sentiment is that we need to make some changes. The survey objective was to help us focus on specific subjects that the members have an interest in. The study of the future is such a monumental task, that it is difficult to keep up-to-date with all the developments in every area of importance. One of our stated objectives is to use our chapter activities to raise awareness of the future, but we have never used a group effort to prioritize the issues in a systematic way. One of the general comments expressed was that we add more opportunities for interaction and facilitated problem solving. This month we will put that suggestion into practice and use some of the well-known future studies techniques to gather more feedback from the membership, rather than have a guest speaker.
As we go through the survey results, we will use a modified Delphi technique to summarize the first round of answers and refine the questions. The goal is not only to identify the key issues that will impact everyone in the future, but also to create a consensus opinion of the short list of priorities where CTXWFS should advocate new solutions. It will take several work sessions to complete this exercise, and we will continue to use this and other ideas to supplement the guest speaker program. Members and guests are invited to submit their ideas and join the discussion.
