We live in an age where there are continuous advancements in medical technology and treatments that are revolutionizing therapies and disease management. But how do you ensure your medical history remains confidential? What happens after biological specimens are used for immediate diagnosis? We will discuss legal and ethical issues for consent to medical records and fair use of biologic samples related to recent case law. You will serve on mock jury to discuss and decide the verdict on one of four recent legal challenges regarding fair use of biological samples.

Come participate as Anna Dragsbaek, J.D. leads CTXWFS members and guests in an interactive discussion of recent case law and implications on protecting your medical history, your biological material and the impact on the future of medical research.

The Immunization Partnership

Anna C. Dragsbaek became aware of the critical role that vaccines play in the health of a community when she worked in a rural hospital as a Peace Corps volunteer in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Watching children suffer from vaccine-preventable diseases, such as tetanus, measles and polio, was an experience that left a deep impression on Anna.

Later, Anna lived in China where she again witnessed people suffering from vaccine-preventable diseases, including severe influenza. Upon returning to the United States and settling in Houston, Anna pursued her law degree, specializing in Public Health Law at University of Houston, which was a natural progression from her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Marquette University.

While completing her law degree, Anna worked as Manager of the Immunization Project at Texas Children's Hospital where she focused on implementing projects to boost immunization rates and analyzing immunization law and policies.  She has been published in several peer reviewed journals, including Pediatrics, and has received numerous awards, including the Healthcare Hero award from the Houston Business Journal.

Anna is very committed to the local and international community, holding past and present board positions on the American Immunization Registry Association, The Confederation of Meningitis Organization, and the Texas Lyceum.  Anna also volunteers as a Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor and specializes in the Citizenship Merit Badges.   Anna is the proud parent of two boys, who are both fully immunized.
