Nick Bostrom is a world renowned philosopher and futurist. He is the founding director of The Future of Humanity Institute at Oxford, which is a research center focused on predicting and preventing large-scale risks to human civilization.
Nick Bostrom’s eagerly awaited new book titled Superintelligence was just published last week. In the book he argues that "...the future impact of AI is perhaps the most important issue the human race has ever faced."
CTXWFS leader Mike Ignatowski will present an overview of the ideas in the book, as well as various commentary and reviews of the book. The history of these meetings suggests that this will be followed by spirited and highly opinionated discussion about the future of humanity and whatever else crosses people's minds.
As we move into the future, the CTXWFS will also be moving to a NEW LOCATION for this month's meeting:
Unlike previous meetings, there is NO CHARGE or need to register to attend this meeting. You can order your own food and drink if you wish (and most people do), but please arrive early to place your order.
The meeting starts promptly at 7pm.
As a reminder, don't forget that we are excited to be partnering with Technology Futures, Inc. for their 3rd annual conference MiniTrends 2014: Insight, Innovation & Strategy in Austin , TX on September 26 at the Holiday Inn Lady Bird Lake. CTXWFS is pleased to offer you the very special limited rate of $150 for the full-day conference by using the “Special150-2014” discount code or clicking here.
